| Appointing party | The organisation that says what information it needs and appoints others to produce it. |
| Appointed party | An organisation appointed to produce information. A lead appointed party coordinates other appointed parties. |
| CDE | Common Data Environment. The agreed system and process for collecting, managing and sharing containers. |
| Information container | A named file or set of files managed as one unit: a model, drawing, schedule or report. |
| Federation | Combining discipline containers so clashes and gaps can be seen. Not a merge into one authoring file. |
| WIP / Shared / Published / Archive | The four states. Shared is for coordination. Published is accepted for a stated purpose. |
| Suitability | Metadata saying what a container may be used for. Distinct from revision and from state. |
| Information standard | The project rules: naming, status, classification, acceptance. |
| EIR | Exchange information requirements. What an appointment asks an appointed party to deliver. |
| Preliminary result | A figure from a stated formula. Not a design approval. |
| Darcy–Weisbach | Straight-pipe head loss from friction factor, length, velocity and diameter. Fittings are extra. |
| Rational method | A peak-flow screen, Q = 2.78 C i A in the units used here. Not FEH. |
| Hydrostatic bound | Fluid pressure as unit weight times height. An upper picture, not a formwork design. |
| Temporary works coordinator | The BS 5975 procedure role. This site does not appoint one. |
